Phonics

At The Giles Nursery and Infants’ School, phonics is taught through our own bespoke systematic synthetic phonics programme. The teaching of letters and their sounds, letter names, alternative pronunciations and alternative spellings is broken down into phases:

Phonics can be confusing at first! We regularly host Phonics Workshops to support parents/carers who are new to this method of learning to read. Dates are listed in our Weekly Newsletter.

There are a wide range of online games and applications that support phonics learning. In school, we use Phonics Play to support teaching and learning. There are free games available here:
