Mathematics

It's time to enjoy your very own Tiny! | White Rose Education

At The Giles Nursery and Infants' School, our mathematics curriculum is supported by the White Rose Maths planning.

White Rose Maths is a research-driven mastery approach to teaching mathematics for ages 4–16, designed to align with the UK National Curriculum. It breaks learning into 'small steps' focusing on deep understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving through concrete, pictorial, and abstract representations.

White Rose Maths has teamed up with TV presenter, teacher and parent Michael Underwood to produce a miniseries called Maths with Michael. Michael explains modern teaching methods and there are printable parent guides for place value, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.

White Rose Maths also has a range of home learning videos available, which you can use to support the area of mathematics your child is learning at school.

Designed for use both in class and at home, the White Rose Maths 1-minute maths app helps children build greater number confidence and fluency. The first version of the app is aimed at Year 1 and 2 pupils. Individual one-minute tasks focus on adding and subtracting, subitising, multiplication and division. The app is available to download here.

Additionally, the school subscribes to Numbots.

NumBots aims for every child to achieve the 'triple win' of understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating. Your child has their own unique log in, which you can find in their home reading record.
