Nursery Admissions

From September 2017, responsibility for administering Nursery admissions was passed to each individual school, which means parents and carers must submit their application directly to us.

The Giles Nursery is committed to providing as many places as possible to children from the local community.

Entry to Nursery is usually a single intake in September, although early entry may be available in the January/April after a child’s third birthday. This is subject to a child’s readiness for school and early entry is at the discretion of the headteacher.

Parents of children born between 1st September 2022 and 31st August 2023 will be able to apply directly to the school on the school’s application form from 3rd November 2025. Applications will be dealt with on a first-come first-served basis.

A paper application form is available from our main school office or can be downloaded by clicking the link below. All applications are considered in line with our Nursery Admissions policy, after the closing date of Friday 6th February 2026.

Completed applications can be submitted by hand to our school office, by post to Giles Nursery and Infants’ School, Durham Road, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 4JQ or by email: nurseryadmissions@gilesinfants.herts.sch.uk

Applications are considered in line with the criteria shown in our Nursery Admissions Policy, which you can find below. If you have any queries, please contact our school office on 01438 359 747 or email: admin@gilesinfants.herts.sch.uk.

If you wish your child to be considered for early entry in January or April 2026, please contact the school office for an early entry form.

Deferred Entry to Reception

The school does not permit children to defer entry to Reception and repeat a year in Nursery unless the child has attended the Giles Nursery.

Any decision regarding deferral requires permission from the headteacher and would ordinarily be given only when a child has attended our Nursery and is well-known to our staff. Decisions will be taken after discussion has taken place to ensure that all parties (including parents, the headteacher and staff) agree that to repeat the Nursery year is in the child’s best interests.

Under exceptional circumstances (such as a family moving from another area), consideration of a request to defer may be given after consultation, visits and receipt of any external specialist assessments.
