From September 2017 responsibility for administering Nursery admissions was passed to each individual school which means parents and carers must submit their application directly to us.

The Giles Nursery is committed to providing as many places as possible to children from the local community.

Subject to place availability, all three to four year olds will be offered 15 hours’ free provision for 38 weeks a year and some parents will qualify for a further free 15 hours under the Government’s ‘30 hours free early years education and childcare’ scheme. Children are usually admitted to The Giles Nursery in the September after their third birthday. If places are available and at the Head teacher’s discretion, it may be possible to admit children in the term after they turn three during the course of the year. 

Parents of children born between 01/09/2018 and 31/08/2019 will be able to apply directly to the school on the school’s application form from 1st November 2021. Applications will be dealt with on a first-come first-served basis. A paper application form is available from our main school office or can be downloaded by clicking the link below.

Completed applications can be submitted by hand, by post or via email at nurseryadmissions@gilesinfants.herts.sch.uk. 

Place allocation for 15 hours a week is made as soon as we receive applications. If we can’t offer you a place immediately, we will place you on our waiting list and contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

Deferred entry to Reception

The school does not permit children to defer entry to Reception and repeat a year in Nursery unless the child has attended the Giles Nursery.

Any decision regarding deferral requires permission from the head teacher and would ordinarily be given only when a child has attended our Nursery and is well-known to our staff. Decisions will be taken after discussion has taken place to ensure that all parties (including parents, the head teacher and staff) agree that to repeat the Nursery year is in the child’s best interests.

Under exceptional circumstances (such as a family moving from another area), consideration of a request to defer may be given after consultation, visits and receipt of any external specialist assessments.
