  • Why not send a message of hope to local organisations?

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

Mrs Humphrey has been in touch with some organisations in our local community that may have been very affected by the pandemic or have been crucial to us, with key workers keeping these places open throughout the pandemic. They have replied to say how touched they are that we are thinking of them at this time and would love to receive a drawing, painting, card or letter from the children of our school. If you would like to post something to all, some or one of the following places they would be grateful to receive them and will send me a photograph of what you have sent to put on our school website as their way of saying thank you back to us. If you have more than one child in the school, please could I request that each child sends something to a different place to ensure each organisation receives something? Please sign your work with The Giles Nursery and Infants’ School on the front so that they know it has come from us. You can put your child’s name if you wish.

You might like to include messages that say ‘thank you’, ‘keep strong’, ‘stay safe’, ‘stick together’, ‘keep smiling’.

Martins House:  A care home for residents over 65. The carers have continued to work hard throughout the pandemic, providing the residents with personalised care and would feel touched if they received a message of thanks. The residents are missing their families as they are not allowed any visitors so it might put a smile on their face to know someone is thinking of them.

Address to post to: Martins House, Jessop Road, Pin Green, Stevenage, SG1 5LL

Jubilee Court:  Another care home in our local area. The carers here have also continued to work harder than ever throughout the pandemic and were happy to hear that we would be sending them messages. They will put a photograph of the cards and pictures on their Facebook page but we will also put them on our school website.

Lister Hospital – charity:  At Lister Hospital, the charity are working hard to display artwork from children in the main hospital building. They have said that the staff and patients would love to see artwork and cards from our children as it really boosts staff morale at this challenging time. They will put a photograph of the cards and pictures on their Facebook page but we will also put them on our school website.

  • School community project - add a ribbon to our gate this half-term!

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

The staff at school are missing the children very much and as a symbol of care and awareness of the well-being of the children in our school we are each going to tie a ribbon to the school gates with our names on. Unfortunately, the Year 2 bubble and some other staff members are now isolating so we may not be place our ribbons until after Monday 15th February. We would love it if your child could add their own ribbon to the school gate on their daily exercise on one of the days in the half term holiday. The idea is that this will end up being a display of us all still coming together as one even when we can’t physically be together. Please could we request that the Nursery children put their ribbons on the small gate near the back of Nursery, Reception put their ribbons on the large gate near Nursery, Year 1 put their ribbons on the large gate by the dining hall and Year 2 put their ribbons on the small gate at the front of Year 2 and the large infant school gate at the front of the school. You will see ribbons from your teachers already on the gate so that you can check which gate to use. Older siblings, who no longer attend the infants’ school are welcome to add their ribbons to the gates as well. The staff are really looking forward to seeing all of the ribbons when they return from the half term break.

  • COVID-19 reminder

    Fri 05 Feb 2021

Young people including little ones under the age of two are very sadly susceptible to the new variant and we are hearing increasingly of hospitalisations amongst the young and, tragically, deaths even in our own school community.

If you are taking one of your children to have a COVID-19 test, you must please immediately come and pick up your other child from school.

You must do this – by law – even if the child you are testing has clear symptoms of some other illness and you think that probably the high temperature is due to something like a tummy bug or an ear infection.

Children are now testing positive at the same time as obviously having some other illness such as an ear infection.
